Exchange 12 Features Announced

Microsoft revealed some of the features and other changes planned for E12, the next Exchange version.

These are:

  • Edge Services – Gateway protection, incorporating current IMF technology
  • Outlook auto setup of profiles
  • Redesigned ESM UI
  • Scripting for all ESM components
  • Continuous Backup – Replicate changes to another database
  • Improved search functionality
  • Web Services API
  • OMA will be removed (probably because of the wide adoption of ActiveSync)
  • Policy compliance – verify client configuration
  • Enhanced mobile device
  • Access Sharepoint and other application through OWA
  • Unified messaging  - voice mail and faxes in your mailbox
  • Improved Calendaring functionality
  • 64-Bit version
  • Conformance to the WS System Common Engineering criteria – this means all Microsoft Server products will start to look the same and get the same kind of updates based on MSI 3.0
  • Increased store size limit for Exchange standard edition
