Thanks to everyone who contributed suggestions, recommendations and enhancements to the ISA Server 2000 Exchange Server 2000/2003 Deployment Kit beta 1 release. I’ve been able to incorporate a number of changes and additions to the ISA Server 2000 Exchange Server 2000/2003 Deployment Kit documents based on your suggestions. If you haven’t seen a change based on your suggestion made yet, don’t worry. I’m still trying to catch up with your mail and will make the changes ASAP. I appreciate the input you’ve sent to me a tshinder@tacteam.net and hope to get even more.

I’ve been able to incorporate a number of changes and additions to the ISA Server 2000 Exchange Server 2000/2003 Deployment Kit documents based on your suggestions. You’ll also noticed that the kit is just about complete. The only document that needs to be completed is the one on how to obtain a certificate using the Certificates MMC standalone snap-in. I’ll get that one done tonight and post it as soon as its complete.


Read the ISA Server 2000
Exchange Server 2000/2003 Deployment Kit

I appreciate the help the ISAServer.org community has provided in coming up with the design and scope of the ISA Server 2000 Exchange Server 2000/2003 Deployment Kit documents and the suggestions on how to enhance them. If you haven’t had time to give any input yet, its not too late! What I’m looking for at this point is:

  • Stuff that doesn’t make sense. If you don’t understand the concept or the procedure, let me know so that I can make it more clear
  • Stuff that doesn’t work! All the procedures described in the kit work. They’ve been tested over time in production environments and have stood up in terms of reliability and security. If something doesn’t work, it might be that I explained it improperly or left out a step. Let me know!
  • Stuff that isn’t in the kit but that you think should be in the kit. Are there procedures that you need to perform to allow secure remote access to your Exchange Server services that aren’t included in the kit? If so, let me know! The goal of the kit is to provide the detailed step by step, no guesswork required, procedures that allow you to get your remote employees secure connected to the Exchange Server behind the ISA firewall
  • Anything else you’d like to let me know about the kit

    The beta 2 version is only available in HTML online format. The final version will be available in Word document format that you can download. I’ll make the docs available for individual download, or you can download the entire kit. We ran into some problems with the VPN kit after its initial release because we didn’t realize how popular it would be and didn’t have enough bandwidth to support everyone who wanted to download the kit. I’m working with some people who can provide high speed mirrors, so stay tuned.

    By the way – if you have some extra bandwidth and are willing to act as a high-speed mirror for the ISA Server 2000 Exchange Server 2000/2003 Deployment Kit, then let me know at tshinder@shinder.net This kit is going to be wildly popular and I want to make sure that everyone can get the kit docs when they want them.
