Some organisations like to restrict access to certain features, or remove features that are just no used - this tip explains how you can remove Tool entries from the Toolbox node in the Exchange Management Console

When you open the Exchange Management Console, many of you will know that there is a node entitled “Toolbox”. Clicking on this node will give you access to tools such as Performance Monitoring, the Exchange BPA, Message Tracking and Queue viewers to name but a few.

However, did you know that you can remove entries from the Toolbox?

Note: If you are going to use this tip – make sure that you have a backup of the registry!

Let’s say for instance that you do not wish for administrators to see the Database Troubleshooting tool in the list.

In order to remove this entry – open Regedit (START->RUN) and type “Regedit” and navigate to the following key:

Find the key entry entitled “ExTRA-MDBMount” and delete the entry.

When you next start the EMC and navigate to the Toolbox – you will no longer see that entry
