1. Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer & Office 365
Welcome to the August 2011 edition of the MSE Newsletter! This month I want to talk about the famous Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer tool and more importantly the improvements that were recently made to this tool.
First off Microsoft Exchange Remote Connectivity analyzer is now the Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer. The future direction for this tool is to incorporate more products as can be seen in the Figure 1 below. Because of this it really made sense to drop "Exchange" from the name. Bear in mind though, that there are still lots of strings where you'll see ExRCA or Exchange, I'm told this is being cleaned up in a future release.
Because the tool will support multiple products in the future, a new tabbed user-interface UI has been introduced.
 Figure 1
So as you can see the tool now includes an Office 365 tab, which really makes sense in these days where thousands of customers will move from an on-premise Exchange solution to Office 365 (Exchange Online) in the cloud, which depending on the size of the on-premise Exchange environment and such isn't a simple task.
Let's try to switch to the Office 365 tab. As can be seen in the figure below, we get an additional option named "Microsoft Single Sign-On (BETA)", which can help customers with validating identity federated scenarios with Office 365. Specifically, this new test targets the "Basic Authentication" federated scenario where a client sends credentials to Office 365 which in turn validates them against the on-premises ADFS server.
 Figure 2
Although the remaining options under the Office 365 tab are named identically to those under the Exchange Server tab, they have been specifically developed to perform tests against Exchange 2010 Online which is part of Office 365.
The Microsoft Exchange Remote Connectivity analyzer tool made it so much easier to perform tests from the Internet against an on-premise Exchange solution and now the Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer provides a similar experience for customers moving to the cloud.
Guess it's time for you to sign up for an Office 365 trial account right? You can do so here.

6. Ask Henrik Walther a question
QUESTION:
We're an enterprise organization running Exchange 2010 SP1. All Exchange 2010 SP1 Mailbox server are DAG members. We now need to change the IP subnet for one of the locations that contains several DAG member servers.
Would you kindly let us know how we should go about changing the IP address of these DAG member nodes?
ANSWER:
Well, you should simply be able to change the IP address of the DAG member servers to match the subnet. Also bear in mind that if you have set a static IP address for the DAG on the old subnet, you must assign an IP address from the new IP subnet. If the DAG is assigned an IP address via DHCP, you should make sure to create a new DHCP server scope so that the DAG can lease an IP address from the new IP subnet.
