    Experience and implementation

    I work at a VAR. I've been working on RightFax for over ten years. I have seen other fax servers and talked to their techs on performance/features. Overall, I think RightFax has the functionality my customers want. Most of the time, I'm fixing misconfigured servers. I have RightFax servers with 1-3 year uptimes. This can be achieved with proper planning and knowledge of Rightfax, network, and Windows server limitations. Again and again, I see admins do crazy changes and expect server to function normally. That is insane! By far, version 9.30 is vastly more stable than version 8.70-SP3 release.

    Still the best for a reason

    Every fax product on the market has warts. We are now living in the day of Active Directory, SQL, Exchange 2003, ERP applications, FoIP, Disaster Recovery, etc... If there were another fax product on the market with the breadth and depth of RightFax, I would be selling it. The reality is, there is nothing even close.

    RightFax Reliability

    We support numerous RightFax system users receiving/sending over 50,000 faxes/day with excellent reliability. RightFax is robust, flexible and reliable when properly implemented and the current release (9.3) is performing well. Most current issues we see are with RightFax systems that have new or untrained Administrators. We have many users whose systems have run uninterrupted for several years and sometimes this leads to having no one on the current staff having any exposure or admin knowledge of the system to address issues when they arise.

    "When good girls go bad"

    Version 8.7 was a stable platform. I slept at night, harldy ever had any issues with it. Then like a wave of hormones in a teenager, version 9.0 product went bad and then worse. The support has been worse. We are considering unrecommending it. The servers crash, Channels hang, the queue utilization went through the roof, it now requires periodic bi-weekely reboots.

    Ohhh and DR plans are nearly impossible to implement.

    RightFax and Notes

    Hi, if you're considering using Rightfax with Lotus Notes/Domino my suggestion is don't - it's just a great big world of pain, frustration, and endless sales people saying yes we've fixed that in out new version just hand over a few more thousand thanks

    RightFax is not the one

    In coming here for the purpose of finding a replacement for our garbage RightFax installation I figured I would quickly give my 2 cents.

    I had 8,5 running with Exchange 2000 and other than the occasional disappearing fax it worked fairly well. It was when we chose to migrate to Exchange 2003 that we truly got a taste for this product. The upgrade path from 8.7 to 9.x is horrible. I have to manually hack the registry, hack the AD schema and purge multiple mailboxes. Their TS pointed me to a URL and basically said Good Luck. I am going to give GFI a try as they generally provide quality products. Some of the worst product support I have ever seen.

    Version 9

    Rightfax is a very good product while it is running correctly. I sometimes regret upgrading from 8.7 to 9 and even more so hotfixing 9 as it seemed to cause more problems on a system that was close to stable.

    Stability

    The core product is reliable (although not too flexible). The modules that surround it are usually pretty buggy.

    If you don't know the product very well, you can have a REAL hard time with it; that's why you you need a VAR to sell it to you and suport it, which doesn't say much about the product.

    Captaris' support is pretty bad, especially since version 9 was released.

    All in all, if you're willing to spend a lot of time with it, it gives you some good functionality and reliabiliy, but you need to have someone spend all that time with it and when things go bad don't expect a lot ot help.

    Rightfax Integration

    And there's the problem. I have a Domino mail infrastructure here. Their Domino integration is pathetic. I was told, by their 2nd tier support staff, that it is best to stay away from their Notes Client Print Process method of fax exporting, because it is so fickle. And to even get it to work, you have to basically leave the machine in an open, unlocked state, and once it is working, don't touch it. The don't touch it part came word for word from tech support. I'm not knocking the support staff, they didn't write the software, but hell, when they say not to use a feature if at all possible, makes you worry about the rest of the software features.

    Just to give you guys a little insight into it's other mail integration packages.

    Where to start !

    Version 9 was so bad we were forced us to roll back to 8.7. Just hope we can save face and change to another product before any more damage can be done. Place any demands on anything but the default install and you are in for a roller coaster of bugs, patches, outstanding support issues, and frustration.

    Technical Support Horrible

    Captaris probably posseses the WORST technical support I have ever dealt with. They rarely can fix anything that you can't find on your own in their KB. Most issues get escalated to "development" where you will receive a hotfix three months down the line that usually breaks something else. You have to chase their support personnel for follow ups and resolutions. The most recent 9.0 has whole modules (like web delivery) defective out of the box. They even forgot to ship the documentation for Web Delivery entirely. Poor Q&A, slow hotfix development, and very buggy software. I recommend to stay away like the plague. The only saving grace is that "core" part of the product always works. Your users WILL send and receive faxes, but you will be dealing with so many minor annoying bugs, it just aint worth it...

    Support

    WrongFax would be more appropriate. The fax board has been failed twice in 24 months. The service is provided by Captaris is the worst we've ever experienced. Tech support is unwilling to do anything unless forced into it. Way over priced for a poor product. We were talked into it by a var and that was a big waste of money.

    RightFax is the best and most solid of all enterprise faxing solutions. I have wroked with telephony products for over 20 years. This is the best of breed.

    Those who have had problems must not have had the right people helping them get up to speed.

    Regardless of SW Quality, Quality Service is a must

    I read with horror the comments of users having issues with this (or any product) and am constantly amazed at the ignorant responses. Stating back that "if you had hired var X to install it you wouldn't have issues" when someone posts with issues dealing with a companies support just further illustrates how sorry their support offerings must be.

    You judge the quality of a Company by how they react when things go badly. Any 2 bit company can sell you software. Only the good ones support it well.

    I'm done with this product/company!

    Exuberant prices, bug ridden Trashware. You want to even be able to install it? Better be prepared to pay thousands for a yearly "support" contract. Documentation? Sure, but try to search for an explicate error code... where do they find their developers? I have 2 years of experience in working with this product, that's time enough out of my life.

    Install it properly, maintain the versions & patches and it is rock solid

    I have worked with RightFax at several companies, including my current one, and have found it to be extremely reliable and flexible. It is an extensive and very competitent product that integrates the phone network with the data network with the email system and with entprise apps like ERP & CRM. It can handle huge volumes and provides a slew of APIs for integrating it with applications. The Exchange integration is fantastic-- users just love it.

    It is pretty easy to setup and use, but to get the full value out of it and do complicated things, it helps to understand all the systems it connects with. If you aren't a master of all of the above, then find the right VAR... you will have a system that users love and you never have to worry about.

    RightFax and Support

    RightFax is rich in features and functionality and provides rock solid reliability. Users will get the most out of the system if they have an experienced integrator/reseller provide implementation and training services. Our experience with support has been good.

    Problems with attachment, company logo and signature

    Poor support: When faxes with images of company logo and signature were sent, the page became jumbled up and some text were distorted.

    Poor performance and after sales support

    We have been attempting to run this package for just under a 6 months now, and to date the product has not worked properly.

    We have had various support requests go in, and the response we have received back has been very poor. We are continually having to chase the support team for an answer.

    For the money we have spent on this package, I am deeply disappointed, and I am now looking to return the software and purchase a package from another vendor.

    Poor Product & Poor Support

    RightFAX is, in my opinion, over priced, provides poor customer service and an unwillingness to help, unless of course you write them a rather large check ($$$), in addition to what you have already paid for a product that may or may not work in your environment.

    For a small business, this is not the best solution.

    Must not have the right VAR

    In looking at other comments, I question the IT staff who selected the VAR to implement RightFax. I've used RightFax for over three years (Currently at v8.5). It is a rock-solid, highly reliable fax solution. We've processed over 3.5 million fax pages since it's implementation. It's integration with Exchange is seamless and efficient. The embedded codes and API have allowed us to further integrate RightFax into all other applications we use.

    Inbound Routing

    Questionable sales and support. We have also experienced non-delivery of incoming faxes. The company also provides poor documentation regarding their Host Integration product.

    Their support is very bad

    We implement Right Fax 8.5 on March and since that date and till now we have a lot of problems with this software like:

    Line hanging; Missed pages; Non delivery pages.
